There were smiles by the truck load!
Thousands of youngsters rolled into Park Slope’s PS 295 on Saturday for the school’s annual Touch-a-Truck festival, and parents say the annual opportunity for tots to sit behind the wheel of a big rig is the place to be seen amongst the preschool set.
“It’s the toddler event of the year,” said Kensington resident Saryn Goldberg-Elam, who brought her fire-engine-mad 4-year-old Avian to the fest. “It’s every kid’s dream to sit in a fire truck.”
Attendees paid an $8 toll for the chance to get up close and personal with a dream team of jumbo rides lined up along 16th Street including a vintage Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus, a fire engine, a parks department front-end loader, and a plumber’s truck.
The profits went to the school’s parent-teacher association, which meant everyone came out a winner, according to Goldberg-Elam.
“The kids are super excited, the people who operate the trucks are heroes for a day, and the school makes a huge amount of money,” she said.
