Smart and lucky 13 — Brooklyn Tech students aced their PSAT

Fort Greene

Standing O, along with the faculty and administration at Brooklyn Technical High School, are handing out high-fives to 13 savvy students who were named finalists for the National Merit Scholarship.

These brainy teens demonstrated outstanding academic achievement as well as performing aces on the Preliminary SAT exam in junior year. As a result they will compete among a field of 15,000 students to be one of the 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners.

Now, considering that 1.7 million juniors sat for the exam, being a finalist is a pretty significant achievement.

Without further ado, are the students that made it to the finalist position:

Francine J. Valeri, Rose Chen, Grace L. Giordano, Michele V. Soltsov,Victoria Lee, Michelle Wong, Tammy Yan, August Trollbäck, Diana Abagyan, Leo C. Houts, Sandy Jean-Charles, Ivan Ruan, and Michael Lee.

“Most of these students credited the diverse population and myriad opportunities available to them at Brooklyn Tech — both academic and extracurricular— for helping to shape them into the successful young people they are today,” said David Newman, acting principal.

Standing O credits the teachers at Brooklyn Tech for giving the students the guidance to lead them in the right direction, and wishes the students good luck in their very bright futures.
