The corner of East 72nd Street and Avenue K in Southeast Brooklyn was transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland last Friday for the 10th annual Brooklyn’s Home for the Holidays celebration. Nicknamed “Christmas Corner,” the beloved event delighted the community with an elaborate display of lights and mechanical holiday scenes.

Community Board 18 and District Leader Frank Seddio led this year’s lighting ceremony and counted down to illuminate the spectacular displays. Many mechanical decorations — including Santa’s workshop, rooftop reindeer and towering Nutcracker toy soldiers — were donated from Seddio’s renowned Christmas House, bringing holiday cheer to Canarsie for many years.

The Dec. 6 event also featured Hanukkah displays with menorahs and Stars of David, along with a cheerful Kwanzaa corner.

Council Member Mercedes Narcisse joined the celebration, while Assembly Member Jaime Williams sent warm holiday greetings to the crowd. Performances by local groups, including Take A Bow Performing Arts Center, P.S. 312 Compass, and Stella Entertainment, filled the evening with music and dancing, despite the freezing temperatures.

Towering Nutcracker toy soldiers and rooftop reindeer are just a few of the mechanical wonders on display.

Event organizer Austin Ferrazzano has upheld this tradition for years, describing it as a meaningful investment in the community.

“It’s amazing to see the happy faces of kids and passersby,” Ferrazzano said. His dedication, along with support from Millennium Development and the Mill Basin Civic Association, ensures the magic continues year after year.

The highlight of the evening was the arrival of Santa Claus, who emerged from the “North Pole” Christmas house to greet children and pose for photos. As neighbors sipped hot chocolate and admired the festive displays, the spirit of unity and joy was palpable.

From carolers and snowmen to talented young dancers, the event embodied the holiday spirit in all its forms. With this year’s Hanukkah coinciding with Christmas Day, the celebration served as a reminder of the inclusivity and warmth that define Southeast Brooklyn.
