The faithful flocked to St. Mark Church to help laud a charity that has been helping underprivileged people for 175 years.
The St. Vincent de Paul Society was delivered the tribute during a Mass at the Sheepshead Bay house of worship, 2602 East 19th Street, where its parish chapter helps with the food pantry, ministers to the needy and assists with other service programs.
The service, conducted by Rev. Joseph Grimaldi and accompanied by the church choir, was followed by a food distribution for the needy.
The Society was founded in 1833 by six university students in Paris under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul. Today, its almost 900,000 members are spread across 46,000 confraternities in 130 countries.
