The long road to self-healing took a step in the right direction when the Recovery Project presented a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to confront the stigma of addiction.
Thousands of ex-addicts joined their families, treatment providers and advocates to form “a living symbol of recovery” as they traversed the historic viaduct en route to City Hall Park for a rally and concert.
The walk was preceded by a gathering at Cadman Plaza, which featured performances by the band “Crazy James,” whose members are all in recovery, and stand-up comedian Mark Lundholm, himself a former addict.
The trek kicked off A&E Television Network’s “The Recovery Project,” a wide-ranging, multi-year initiative to raise awareness about “the fact that addiction is a treatable, recoverable disease.”
