The NYPD has announced that they have arrested a suspect who they believe was involved in a murder that occurred in New Lots earlier this year.
Isiaha Roberts was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon on Wednesday evening by officers in the 75th police precinct following a months-long investigation by the NYPD.
At approximately 12:31 a.m. on April 26, police responded to a 911 call reporting a man shot in the torso at 330 Hinsdale Street. Upon arrival, officers observed victim Jason Oliver with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Oliver was taken by EMS to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
It is unclear what caused or preceded the shooting, but according to a report by the Daily News, neighbors routinely heard shouting or arguments in the courtyard where Oliver was shot.
The murder marked a violent week in the neighborhood, with a previous deadly shooting occurring just two days prior on April 24.
According to crime statistics published by the 75th NYPD precinct, the area has seen 42 shootings so far this year with 48 victims compared to the last year-to-date data with 58 shootings reported with 67 victims.
