Police are questioning a suspect in connection with a man who authorities found dead after a building fire in Bedford-Stuyvesant Monday, according to a Police Department spokesman.
The Police and Fire departments responded to a building fire near Jefferson Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard just after 2 pm, and when firefighters extinguished the small blaze they found the deceased victim in the basement, according to the authorities.
Cops took a 55-year-old man into custody for questioning at the 81st Precinct shortly afterward, but have yet to make any arrests, according to the spokesman.
The investigation remains ongoing and officials are withholding the victim’s identity pending family notification.
A spokeswoman for the city’s Chief Medical Examiner did not immediately return a request for comment on the victim’s cause of death.
