A police raid on a 26th Avenue building nabbed a man accused of pointing a gun at a cab driver on April 26, the authorities said.
The cabbie told cops he gave the man in custody a lift and dropped him off in front of the residence between Harway and Cropsey avenues at 7:30 am. When he asked for the fare, the accused allegedly said he needed to run into his apartment to get it — but instead of returning to the street with cash, the defendant reportedly came out with a gun.
“Do you really want me to pay you now?” the suspect is alleged to have said, pointing the weapon at the driver.
The cabbie said he shoved the muzzle of the firearm away, then dove back into his car and sped off, before dialing 911. Cops said they arrived on the scene in time to see the suspect run into the residence.
Police created a perimeter around the structure before sending a team in, officers stated. The cops said they heard a noise inside one apartment and knocked on the door — and immediately got a call from their comrades outside reporting that the defendant was climbing out the window. The boys and girls in blue posted outdoors said they yelled for the man to stop — which allegedly caused the man to begin climbing back in the windows. The outside officers radioed word to the team in the building, and the officers inside kicked the apartment door down and arrested the man, a police report says.
Tireless
A lowlife jacked the tires and rims from a vehicle parked on Benson Avenue on April 22, police stated.
The victim said he left his car between 24th Avenue and Bay 38th Street at 11:50 pm. When he returned the next day, he found his wheels stripped to the hubs and the body mounted on cinder blocks, according to a report.
Bulldozed
A crook stole the bucket off an earth mover left on Shore Parkway sometime between April 19 and April 21, cops said.
The driver said he parked his Caterpillar near Bay Eighth Street at 5 am and came back two days later to find it gone. He used its navigation system to track it to the corner of W. Sixth Street and Neptune Avenue — but arrived there to find the machine’s scoop removed, officers stated.
Gym rat
A crook broke into a car parked on 86th Street while its owner was working out at a nearby health club on April 11, authorities reported.
The motorist told cops he left the vehicle between 24th Avenue and Bay 38th Street at 10 pm, and went to exercise. When he came back, he found all the car doors were open — even though the windows were intact — and his credit cards and set of house keys were gone, according to the law.
