Thief hits two Bay Ridge banks – and threatens tellers with bomb

A bomb-threatening bank robber is on the loose in Bay Ridge!

Two banks were robbed this week in the neighborhood, and both times the unmasked thief threatened to blow up the bank. Police believe that the same man committed both crimes, according to Lieutenant Thomas Gulotta of the 68th Precinct.

The first incident occurred on Nov. 9 at Flushing Bank on Third Avenue. Someone described as a 6-foot white guy in a green sweatshirt entered the bank, which is between 71st and 72nd streets, at around 3 pm. He passed the teller a note that read, “This is a bank robbery. Don’t be alarmed, I have a bomb.” The frightened teller handed over the cash in her drawer — $1,725 — and the perp fled.

The second robbery went down three days later at Atlantic Bank on 13th Avenue. This time, the thief handed the teller a note that read, “Give me cash, I have a bomb in my backpack.” The teller gave him more than $3,600.

Cops do not have any suspects in the case and no arrests have been made, Gulotta said.
