A who’s-who of Brooklyn politicos gathered Downtown this morning to glad-hand over breakfast, just days before the midterm election.
Organized by longtime Democratic operative Steve Cohn, the breakfast event at Junior’s Restaurant brought together some of the biggest names in borough politics, including Borough President Adams, District Attorney Ken Thompson, and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D–Williamsburg), along with presumptive Assembly winners Rodneyse Bichotte and Jo Anne Simon, the Democratic nominees for the Flatbush and Brooklyn Heights seats. Howard Golden, borough president from 1977 till 2001 and longtime Brooklyn Dem boss, was also in the house.
Cohn spent 27 years as Williamsburg and Greenpoint district leader, an unpaid but politically influential post representing the district in the state Democratic Party. District leaders select the party’s county chairman and have influence over the picking of judicial candidates. Cohn stepped down in 2010, but he remains a power player — a long line of movers and shakers at the breakfast lined up to shake his hand.Tickets to the power breakfast started at $75 and ran as much as $750.
