Earthman Experience

BAMcafé Live, at 30 Lafayette Avenue, the performance series curated by Darrell M. McNeill, concludes its line-up for May. BAMcafé Live events have no cover charge and no drink minimum.

May 24 at 9:30 p.m. brings DanceAfrica at BAMcafé Live: The Earthman Experience featuring DJ Hard Hittin Harry. Haitian-born house music pioneer Richard “Earthman” Laurent along with fellow Haitian DJ Hard Hittin Harry lead an Afro-beat ensemble that features congas, guitars, keyboards, percussion, turntables, violins, and soulful vocals.

May 30 at 9 p.m. is the Sundance Institute at BAM: An evening with pianist Anthony de Mare. Widely acclaimed for creating theatrical worlds out of musical works, pianist Anthony de Mare comes to BAMcafé to perform work by composers including Laurie Anderson, Stephen Sondheim, George Antheil, John Adams, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Meredith Monk, Annie Gosfield, and Frederic Rzewski’s theatrical version of Oscar Wilde’s “De Profundis.”

Finally, on May 31 at 9 p.m., there is Sundance Institute at BAM: Anvil Live! Following the screening of “Anvil! The True Story of Anvil” — the 2008 Sundance Film Festival hit about their quest for rock legend status — the band Anvil brings their kinetic brand of heavy metal to BAMcafé for a rocking party. Join Lips, Robb Reiner, and Glenn Five for this evening of late-night shredding.
