Five people — including a 6-year-old girl — are in the hospital after a driver collided with a garbage truck on Bay Parkway near 77th Street at 8:55 am on Thursday. The scene was a shock for onlookers, one witness said.
“There was a loud bang and everyone kind of just held their breath,” said Jerry DeNapoli, who saw the crash. “I thought the driver must be banged up pretty bad.”
All three vehicles were traveling toward the Belt Parkway when the driver of a Toyota swerved into the waste-hauler in the lane next to his, lost control of his ride, and rear-ended a Honda with the kid and two adults inside.
The impact of the crash pulverized the Toyota’s side mirror and smashed the driver’s-side window, photos show.
Emergency responders took the three victims in the Honda to Maimonides Medical Center and the other two to Coney Island Hospital, officials said.
