The show must go on, and it did in Sheepshead Bay this weekend.
BayFest, the Bay Improvement Group’s annual spring concert, is a rain-or-shine event, and on Sunday when the assembled bands were faced with more than a little rain, they shined.
“Giant Flying Turtles played in the rain, and they were great.” said Laura McKenna, Bay Improvement Group’s executive director. “A little rain wasn’t going to stop those flying turtles.”
BayFest was probably one of the few concerts in history with the dubious distinction of having more musicians than audience members, but everyone who came out seemed to enjoy themselves, in spite of the weather.
“We were bummed out because it rained, but we really loved The Shots,” said Daphna Dabach, who came down from Midwood with her son Dylan. “They play Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas, and Guns and Roses, except with bag pipes.”
Adriana Louise, of The Voice, played on the main stage, which was more or less sheltered from the rain, along with American Idol contestant Michael Lynche, Daddy Rocker, and Michelle Ferrara.
Other attractions included an FDNY fire boat, which delighted the sparse audience with — funny enough — a water display, and a dancing man carrying a cloth fish, who was not invited to perform, but did anyway.
“He was carrying a large cloth fish,” said McKenna. “I don’t know what’s going on there, I’m not sure he has all his marbles.”
Whatever his agenda, he was a definite crowd pleaser.
“They should invite him to perform,” said Dabach. “He did a split at the end.”
