Emergency roadwork to hit BQE

The city will shut down Queens-bound lanes of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway for the next few nights to make emergency repairs to decked portion of the highway beneath the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, just past Atlantic Avenue underneath Grace Court.

To compensate for spill-over traffic, Furman Street between Atlantic Avenue and Old Fulton Street will be converted to a two-way street, and traffic will be diverted there.

A Department of Transportation spokesman said that it was unclear how long the construction would take — so until further notice, one or two lanes on the Queens-bound roadway will be closed from 10 pm to 6 am.

The spokesman said that the work was necessitated by damage caused to the ground during Hurricane Irene.
