Hipster Book Deal Party Not Ironic

If you wrote a blog called “Stuff Hipsters Hate” and were offered a book deal, what’s the first thing that you would do?

If throw a party that burned the roof down is your answer, that’s exactly what blogger-authors Andi Bartz and Brenna Ehrlich (stuffhipstershate.tumblr.com) did Saturday night at Glasslands (289 Kent Ave.), home of impromptu Yeah Yeah Yeah shows, among other things.

Inside, groups of hipsters and friends of the bloggers, who have adamantly denied being hipsters themselves, rocked out to thrash-metal band On Point, which had two volumes, loud and louder, followed by acoustic lyricist Jeffrey Lewis, whose subtly soft-spoken stream of rhymes kept the crowd warm from the winter chill.

When asked whether the crowd was strategically filled with hipsters, Bartz said that they did not invite a certain type of demographic.

“No statement was being made in terms of the turnout,” said Bartz. “As we’ve said from the start, our blog isn’t pro- or anti-hipster; we’re just writing things to make people of all ilks laugh.”
