The Cyclones almost let this win get away.
Starter A.J. Pinera pitched his heart out, giving up no hits in his five innings, and reliever Daniel Carela was almost as good, yielding just one hit in his two innings.
But the Cyclones managed just one run, so when reliever Adam Kolarek was less than perfect when he entered in the eighth, the Crosscutters tied up the score.
The Cyclone run had scored in the fifth, when Darrell Ceciliani singled home William Cherry, who had tripled.
The game went to extras, but the Cyclones had the better of the chances, putting runners on second and third in the 10th with one out only to watch Brian Harrison pop out.
In the 14th, the Cyclones finally scored the winning run on a Jeff Flagg SAC fly.
Reliever Samuel Taveras finished it off, but not without a scare as the Crosscutters put runners on second and third with one out. But after an intentional walk, Taveras got the game-ending 4-6-3 double-play.
Ceciliani, who is falling apart in his quest to be the first player in the New York–Penn League to hit .400 since 1971, went 1-for-7, lowering his average to .364.
The Cyclones’ win, combined with a Hudson Valley win, kept the first-place lead at nine games.
