They’re all charged up and ready to roll!
Drivers in the electric-car racing series Formula E will zip around Red Hook’s Brooklyn Cruise Terminal this weekend as an estimated 20,000 spectators flood the nabe to watch the international superstars compete in the sport’s first race in New York City.
The festivities kicked-off Wednesday with a ribbon cutting at the racetrack, and our photographer got a sneak peek of the winding course as teams’ unpacked their sleek, glycerine-guzzling vehicles in preparation for the July 15 and 16 competition.
The battery-powered race cars, which travel at speeds up to 140-miles-per hour, will zoom around a 1.21-mile course that overlooks New York Harbor and the distant isle of Manhattan. Past legs of the series have hit the streets of such exotic locales as Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, and Paris.
