Brooklyn Bridge Park is going to make a big splash this summer.
Park officials announced they’re bringing a temporary pool to Pier 2 — giving frolicking kids and water-loving Brooklynites an opportunity to swim laps and get tans before breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline.
For the next five years, the 3.5-foot-deep, above-ground getaway will bring water recreation to the waterfront — and even an artificial beach and food stands for landlubbers.
Local pols sealed the $199,000 project last year as a bonus to a deal between state lawmakers and Mayor Bloomberg that allowed for some luxury housing to fund the park’s $16-million annual upkeep.
“We were so pleased to secure this pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park — and this summer, families can dive right in!” said state Sen. Daniel Squadron (D–Brooklyn Heights), who penned the agreement along with Assemblywoman Joan Millman (D–Carroll Gardens).
The last time the area that is now Brooklyn Bridge Park had a swimming pool was in 2007, when the Floating Lady Pool docked at the foot of Joralemon Street and cooled almost 50,000 people before moving to the Bronx.
Water bums have been clamoring for another floating pool — including one proposed last summer that would use filtered water from the East River — but park officials say there’s no funding for a new barge.
