When it came to getting into character, these pooches didn’t play.

Coney Islanders and 50 of their canines headed to Luna Park on Oct. 14 for the annual dog parade and costume contest as part of the park’s month-long Halloween Harvest festival. The event was a fun one, according to an attendee.

“It was great, we had a great time,” said Lauren Bavaro, who attended the event for the first time with her two-year-old Chihuahua mix, Maple, who transformed from a pup to a pirate princess for the event.

Pooches dressed up as waffles, crustaceans, ice cream sellers, and sailors rounded out the competitive contest, and paraded through the park before hitting the main stage.

The costume contest is a highlight of the Halloween Harvest festival, which began on September 16 and includes events every weekend at Luna Park, including face painting, pony rides, a pumpkin patch, music and games, and arts and crafts.
