Drug collar earns Canarsie officers cop of the month honors

Two Canarsie crime fighters have been honored as cops of the month by the 69th Precinct Community Council.

Police Officer Paul O’Connor and Police Officer Brian McHenry snagged the honor, at the February meeting of the 69th Precinct Community Council, for their recent arrest of a local drug dealer.

The two officers were “able to catch him with a loaded gun in his car, and were also able to get some marijuana out of his house,” Captain Milt Marmara, the precinct’s commanding officer explained during the meeting, which was held at the Hebrew Educational Society, 9502 Seaview Avenue.

“They also work plainclothes in Canarsie. They work late in the afternoons. They work on weekends. They are both very, very good cops,” Marmara went on.

There were more than enough thank-yous to go around. When one of the officers thanked the council for the honor, area resident Josephine Bolus made it clear that it is the community that is grateful to the cops for their work.

“We thank you,” she told the two officers, after they accepted a stack of certificates of merit honoring their work, from the council, and from Assemblymember Alan Maisel and City Councilmember Lewis Fidler.
